Woodlands doctors’ tips to working women

30 March , 2024, Kolkata: Women planning to become first time mothers should go for an Ovarian Reserve Testing when they reach 30 years of age to stand up to the increasing problem of infertility, while a scientific diet should be followed to lose weight rather than unplanned, long hours of fasting. These were some of the tips shared by gynaecologists from Woodlands with “working” women at various events organised at corporate offices around International Women’s Day throughout this March 2024.

Addressing women workers from Spencer’s at RPSG House, Dr Lahori Roy, consultant obstetrics & gynaecology, Woodlands Multispeciality Hospital, spoke about common gynaecological problems like Polycystic Ovarian Disease (PCOD), infertility, miscarriage, perimenopause (the transitional period before menopause) and remedies.
The presentation was followed by an interactive session, in which infertility emerged as a major concern. “It is important to go for tests to measure the quality and quantity of eggs post 30. Even if a poor-quality egg is fertilized, either the embryo is unable to implant, or the embryo initially implants, but is unable to develop properly, resulting in a subsequent miscarriage. Therefore, it is important to know where one stands and act accordingly as per thee doctor’s advice,” Dr Roy said in replied in response to a query.

Again Dr. Pervider Kaur, consultant obstetrics & gynaecology, Woodlands had a similar interaction with women workers and spouses of male workers at the Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited Aviation in the Dum Dum airport premises. Dr Kaur shared a presentation with the audience on “women-oriented problems”. “A lot of women had queries about the cervical cancer vaccination and pledged to go for inoculation after learning about their effectiveness. That was the take-away of the evening for me,” said Dr Kaur.
“Women tend to neglect their health amid the stress and turbulence of their daily lives and that’s where such sessions can come in as a timely wake-up call. Throughout the year, Woodlands organises health check-ups and clinics for women but these activities increase in March as many institutions put together women-specific events helping the overall cause,” said Dr Rupali Basu, Managing Director & CEO, Woodlands Multispeciality Hospital Ltd.
