“Quick adoption of technological advancements aimed at better patient experience is the future”: Dr Rupali Basu




19 March 2024 :     The penetration of technology in healthcare and how its advent has proven beneficial to people was delineated by retracing the steps of a patient from the moment he or she walks into a hospital till they leave after treatment, by Dr Rupali Basu, Managing Director & CEO, Woodlands Multispeciality Hospital, at a scientific forum on March 1, 2024.
Dr Basu was speaking on the topic “Future of healthcare management - trends in digital advancements” at the inaugural session of the 7th edition of Health Tech 2024 of Bengal Chamber of Commerce and Industry. In her presentation, she went into the details of the use of technology in various facets of hospital services like OP Visit, IP Stay, Discharge, Home Care, and Training.
While speaking on In Patient services, Dr Basu explained the use of AI or artificial intelligence, which can aid to make a range of functions error free, like Automated alerts for taking medicines guided by an e-prescription, Identification of high-risk individuals for preventable diseases and Providing customized dozes based on an individual’s body chemistry and environmental conditions. 
Her presentation consisted of a wide gamut of technological advancements, including automated asset management through RFID or Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) tagging, smart dispensing pharmacies, to 3D Drug Printing and Nanomedicines. She also spoke about the realm of robotics in healthcare transcending Surgical Robots to now discharging duties as Disinfection Robots, Pharmacy Robots and even Companion Robots for a casual conversation.  

Dr Basu stressed on the need to have the right view of the future in healthcare in terms of technological or digital advancement, which should be ultimately aimed at managing the healthcare of a person better. “Automation or technological innovation that is in vogue at any other centre and not yet at my organisation is the future for me. Future healthcare systems will need to deliver care that is more accessible, scalable and equitable, while helping to preserve the health of the planet,” said signed off.

Earlier, in his inaugural speech, Mr Gautam Ray, President, BCC&i and President – Corporate, RPSG Group, said: “Digital technology is a rapidly evolving landscape that has the potential to revolutionize healthcare in India by the constant enhancement of products and services that aid people to access better healthcare with ease.”
