Plant Based Foods Industry Association presents the 4th Mega Convention - The India Plant-Based Foods Show



 18th March, 2024: In line with the need to spread awareness of plant-based foods and their pivotal role in sustainability, health, and animal welfare, the Plant-Based Foods Industry Association (PBFIA) organized 4th Mega Convention - The India Plant-Based Foods Show on 14th March on the 1st day of AAHAR the International Food and Hospitality Fair, in collaboration with Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, The Agricultural and Processed Food Products Development Authority (APEDA), Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), Indian Chamber of Commerce (ICC), India Trade Promotion Organization (ITPO), U.S. Soybean Export Council (USSEC), PALL Corporation and ProVeg International, and EY as the Knowledge Partner.

As stated by Mr. Abhishek Dev, Chairman *APEDA* , global market size for the plant based food is 11.3 billion and is expected to reach excess of 36 billion by 2033 and domestic market is estimated at 20 million and is expected to reach 5 billion by 2033. Moreover, exports of the same are expected to reach 10 billion by 2030. All these build plant based food industry’s enormous global and domestic growth trajectory.

Addressing sustainability, Mr. Karan Mehta, Principal Green Frontier Capital  said through AI Climate Change Mitigation is being focused and this would provide data and updates of climate changing effect and carbon emission and help the producer meet the norms and achieve affordable and sustainable landscape. He also mentioned that India has enormous opportunity in plant based food and startups have a lot to do in this arena. 

On this note Inoshi Sharma, Executive Director, FSSAI spoke about the FSSAI movement 'Eat Right India', a large-scale effort to transform the country's food system in order to ensure safe, healthy and sustainable food for all Indians. With this FSSAI also ensures basic standard, compliance and a network of food testing laboratory for a healthier India. 

 Sandeep Devgan, founder of Shaka Harry , a plant-based meat substitute food company stated that, the industry should bring to market, the developed product without compromising the consumer needs. 

 Aditya Bagri, Director Bagrry's and Co Chairman, ICC Agriculture Committee, stated that, plant based food mainly addresses those with allergies in milk or animal based product. More so plant based proteins are most formidable way to bridge the gap of protein deficiency of vegetarians in an enjoyable and tasty manner. Moreover, these alternatives will be cost effective compared to the alternatives. Lastly he mentioned that the plant based food habit will leave a sustainable impact on life style and reduce carbon foot print as well and provides a green solution in long run.
