Kolkata, 5 March 2024: The Indian Chamber of Commerce (ICC) has appointed Steve Suryadinata, a distinguished Impact Investor, as its Chief Representative for Indonesia, marking ICC's strategic move to enhance economic ties with one of East Asia Pacific’s most vibrant democracies. With Mr Suryadinata’s leadership, ICC anticipates achieving innovative growth and shared prosperity.
Steve is the founder of Mata Investments, a private investment company focusing on early-stage, growth capital, and real estate investments in Southeast Asia. One of the leading companies under the group is BSA Land, the largest property developer in Indonesia. Highly driven by impact, the company currently takes a leading role in the private sector to ease Indonesia's 8 million housing backlog. The company has invigorated nearly 10,000 small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) through its innovative and cost-efficient commercial developments across the country. Steve has a strong family background in the mining industry, being one of the major shareholders of the largest coking coal mine in Southeast Asia. However, since 2015, Steve has adopted an impact-driven approach and divested from the coal industry. Steve was named a Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum in 2022 and is also a member of YPO (Young Presidents' Organization).
In his new role, Mr. Suryadinata is expected to engage with corporations, government agencies and industry organizations to boost trade and investment between India and Indonesia. India and Indonesia have shared two millennia of close cultural and commercial contacts. The shared culture, colonial history and post-independence goals of political sovereignty, economic self-sufficiency and independent foreign policy are unifying factors of bilateral relationship.
Mr. Ameya Prabhu, President of ICC, expressed delight in the appointment, stating, "We are thrilled to have Mr. Steve Suryadinata as ICC’s Chief Representative for Indonesia. His extensive experience and pivotal role in building economic ties between India and Indonesia make him an invaluable leader. Under his leadership, we look forward to catalyzing robust India-Indonesia partnerships in trade and investment, particularly propelling India-Indonesia bilateral trade beyond the current milestone of US$50 billion by 2025." We also hope to bolster ‘Invest in India’ through this office.
Mr. Suryadinata shared his enthusiasm, saying, "I am honoured to represent the Indian Chamber of Commerce as its Chief Representative in Indonesia. Leveraging my experience, I am committed to enhancing trade and investment opportunities, strengthening bonds between corporations, government agencies and industry organizations. I look forward to contributing to the success of both great nations in the flourishing India-Indonesia economic partnership."
