Will greatly help improve HPV vaccination usage : Dr R Sankaranarayanan


2 February 2024: Aiming for Viksit Bharat by 2047 and with a sharp focus and providing momentum to Nari Shakti, Union Minister for Finance & Corporate Affairs, Smt Nirmala Sitharaman 1 February 2024 proposed vaccination to prevent Cervical Cancer and amalgamation of various schemes for maternal and child care, as she presented the Interim Budget 2024-25 in Parliament on 1 February. 

The vaccination programme will be for girls in the age group of 9 to 14 years for prevention of cervical cancer. The Government will encourage this vaccination among the eligible categories, she added. 

Dr R Sankaranarayanan – Director, Preventive Oncology, Karkinos Healthcare, "We applaud the government's initiative to encourage and implement the HPV vaccination of girls in the age group of 9-14 years, for the prevention of cervical cancer. The announcement made in the interim budget will greatly help improve HPV vaccination usage and substantially contribute to advocacy, prevention and elimination of cervical cancer in the country. Undoubtedly it is a major step to further improve women's health in India."
