S&IB Services Addresses Escalating Telecom Disruptions and Calls for Government Action

Kolkata, 16th August 2023: In the wake of escalating disruptions in telecom services, Shyamal Karmakar, Managing Director, and Bikash Kumar Shaw, DGM (Tower & Telecom) of S&IB Services PVT. LTD. addressed the cause of prolonged challenges faced by customers in the industry on Wednesday, August 16, 2023, at Martin Burn Business Park.

The organisation says, In recent times, the telecommunications industry has faced prolonged disruptions that significantly impact the quality and reliability of services nationwide. These disruptions not only harm end-users but also carry significant financial implications for the industry and the broader economy. These issues have primarily been attributed to threats faced by facility management firms responsible for the smooth operation and maintenance of telecom infrastructure. A recent arrest related to threats against these firms has highlighted the urgent need for comprehensive security measures to ensure the continuous provision of telecom services. Apurba Bandyopadhyay, along with some associates from the All Bengal Contract Security Workers Union, has been involved in these threats and blackmailing activities. Before this arrest, Apurba, along with a group of 40-50 individuals, visited the premises of S&IB Services, issuing threats to the employees and creating chaos during regular office hours. S&IB Services Pvt. Ltd., at the centre of this matter, has reported that Apurba has been extracting money from them through various coercive tactics for years. Allegedly, he has been known to wield influence over employment decisions within organisations and reportedly maintains a network of individuals, often numbering in the dozens, to enforce his demands. According to Shyamal Karmakar, Managing Director of S&IB Services Pvt. Ltd., Apurba’s influence has extended to the point of disrupting the tower operations of foreign agencies, leading to significant disruptions. The impact of these allegations extends beyond the affected organisations. Foreign agencies operating in Kolkata, particularly those providing tower services, have expressed concerns about service quality and potential financial risks due to disruptions caused by individuals like Apurba.

Shyamal Karmakar, Managing Director of S&IB Services PVT. LTD., noted, "Our customers depend on uninterrupted connectivity, and any disruption can result in substantial consequences. It's imperative for us, as industry leaders, to collaborate and devise effective solutions to address these challenges. We urge the government to investigate these issues and implement necessary measures to prevent any future disruptions for industries and their customers. We firmly believe that by nurturing a spirit of cooperation, we can establish a more secure and resilient telecom ecosystem, benefiting everyone involved."
