Nasal Covid vaccine now at Woodlands; gives the prick a miss

Kolkata, Feb 11: The Precaution dose against Covid now comes in a non-invasive, needle-free avatar – in the form of a nasal drop. A consignment of this vaccine, called iNCOVACC, has arrived at Woodlands Hospital and vaccination will start as soon as government notification with guidelines is issued.

Developed by Bharat Biotech, iNCOVACC comes with the promise of enhanced immunity against Covid-19. It can be administered to the 18+ age group, only as a booster dose for a price of Rs 990 per dose.

The vaccination will take place at Woodlands Hospital as the hospital continues to play a pioneering role in the city’s Covid-19 vaccination landscape. Beneficiaries would be able to just walk in and register at the OPD counters for their doses once the vaccination starts.

“The nasal vaccine is recommended only for booster dose. It can be taken as the third dose after completion of six months or more of the primary schedule (second dose) of Covishield or Covaxin,” said Dr Rupali Basu, Managing Director & CEO, Woodlands Multispeciality Hospital Ltd.

Those who have already taken a third dose of Covaxin or Covishield, however, need not take the nasal vaccine.

“We have procured 50 doses of iNCOVACC at Woodlands as there is hardly any demand for Covid vaccines at the moment. We will replenish our stocks if the requirement arises,” Dr Basu added.
