Kolkata, 25th January : Magpet Polymers Pvt Ltd, Eastern India’s largest PET Converter Company, announced their food grade bottle-to-bottle R-PET project at the launch event on Tuesday, January 24, 2023, in Kolkata. The announcement was made in the presence of Firhad Hakim, Mayor & MIC of Urban Development & Municipal Affairs; Dr Shashi Panja, MIC Department of Industries, Commerce & Enterprises, Public Enterprises & Industrial Reconstruction Govt. of WB and Dr Kalyan Rudra Chairman of West Bengal Pollution Control Board. On behalf of MAGPET Devendra Surana, Managing Director of MAGPET was present at the event.
Looking at the future trend of using food grade R- PET in the Industry, Magpet will be setting up this Bottle-to-Bottle Food Grade (B2B) R-Pet project in Bengal. This R-PET project will put Bengal on the Global Pet Recycling Map and ensure recycling of post-consumer PET bottles within Bengal – thereby reducing the consumption of virgin resins and thus facilitating a green & sustainable environment with lower carbon footprint in the state. This R-Pet Project will also be a step in integrating the informal recycling sector of Bengal into the mainstream industry segment. This state-of-the-art project is being set up with European Technology with a capital outlay of Rs 100+ Cr.
On the same day, Magpet also unveiled Smart Bins to be placed in the city for disposing of PET bottles. The SMART Bin is a unique, practical, aesthetically appealing, technology enabled & cost-effective solution for Plastic Waste Collection. The Smart Bins have been designed to suit the Indian environment which will enable a wider reach. The big size of the bin helps collection of large amount of used plastic bottles. The bin has a unique sensor that will push notification of fill level to the data management center, ensuring timely and optimized collection routing.
The Project Launch was followed by ‘Ecologue 2023’, a symposium where experts from leading Petrochemical Manufacturers and Global FMCG Brands were present to share their outlook on the future of PET Packaging & its recycling. The main motto of this is to promote recycling, reduce waste, and litter free clean India.
Devendra Surana, Managing Director of MAGPET commenting on the announcement at the event said, "We all have certain responsibilities towards the environment given the rapid climate change throughout the world and otherwise. It is one of the initiatives we have planned to ensure a sustainable environment starting from the installation of smart bins in Kolkata, and with our R-PET Project we will recycle a substantial amount of plastic for a better future."
